The Opportunity This position works out of our Columbus, OH location in the Nutrition Division.
MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE Provide divisional leadership and support to ensure compliance with all relevant US Customs regulations and trade laws, including 19CFR,15CFR, FDA, USDA, and other US regulatory agency requirements.
Responsible for supporting the development and implementation of division-level policies and strategies and ensuring that appropriate actions are taken by their division’s sites.
It will be the responsibility of this position to develop a staff of experts in the import/export compliance field that will serve the current and future demands of the supply chain operation.
What You’ll Work On Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the import and export standard operating procedures (SOPs) that are aligned with Corporate Global Trade Compliance SOPs.
Develop and implement site policies that are consistent with division-level policies to ensure consistency and synergy across sites.
Provide strategic input from division import/export perspective on global projects.
Support division compliance with special trade programs, including Free Trade Agreements (FTA), Foreign Trade Zones (FTZ), Duty Drawback, etc.
Evaluate and recommend divisional strategies for cost avoidance/reduction, ensuring implementation of effective internal controls to mitigate and manage related risk.
Develop and foster relationships with related functional areas at site and division level, including plant and warehouse operations, finance, procurement, R&D and other areas involved in import/export activities.
Monitor customs and trade laws, evaluate divisional impacts (opportunities and risks), and implement action plans to address.
Monitor Free Trade Agreements in context of division’s global supply chain and identify savings opportunities.
Review supply agreements and other contracts to determine potential customs impacts.
Manage import/export compliance personnel and develop staff including hiring, goal setting, performance, coaching, teamwork, and projects.
Develop staff by educating in defined areas of import/export compliance as needed by the business structure.
Effective management of cross-functional and/or cross-divisional projects.
Must frequently use judgment to determine when strict enforcement of requirements vs.
exploring compliant alternatives as appropriate.
Effectively driving for results is a key competency.
Ability to implement compliance processes in areas outside department structures to ensure compliance with regulations.
Responsible for maintaining proper classification and valuation of goods.
Experience in effective negotiating, communication (written and oral), and interpersonal skills including ability to recommend approaches that are compelling enough to influence division/site management in the adoption of procedures, the execution of which results in compliance.
Incumbent is accountable for identifying trade-related risks to the division and site and implementing effective compliance programs and/or internal controls.
Failure to comply is a violation of law and could result in significant fines or penalties.
· This position has extensive contact with division management and corporate GTC.
Directly responsible for taking action when lack of compliance with U.
S.
Customs, BIS or OGA regulations is identified, regardless of site/division or economic pressures.
Budgetary scope: Influence over Free Trade Agreements and other special trade programs that may result in $30MM+ of duty savings and oversight of classifications of over $1B in material value for US imports and exports.
MISC: - Relocation is provided for this role EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE, YOU’LL BRING Required: Bachelor’s degree: Required.
Business, logistics/transportation, or another related field.
Master’s degree: preferred but not required.
Minimum 7 years’ experience in import/export operations, international business, or another related field.
· Experience in managing cross-functional and/or cross-divisional projects.
Ability to balance multiple priorities simultaneously and manage time appropriately are essential for success in this role.
Demonstrated ability to drive for results and set vision/strategy.
Effective negotiating, communication (written and oral), and interpersonal skills are absolutely critical for this position.
